New York City’s sanitation department's toy collection

On the second floor of a nondescript warehouse owned by New York City's Sanitation Department in East Harlem is a treasure trove—filled with other people's trash.
Nelson Molina, an NYC Sanitation Department employee, built up the huge collection over a 30-year career, and the department has been looking after the vast personal museum of unloved treasures ever since his retirement. Who knows what was lost and found throughout the years.
Tours are hard to arrange but not impossible.  For more information on the occasional organized tours, email tours@dsny.nyc.gov.
